A photo essay from our summer trip with Run the Alps
Chamonix
Day 1: took the valley train to Vallorcine, hiked part of the UTMB route, had lunch at a refuge overlooking a glacier, took some awesome pics!
Total miles: 11
Total gain: 2,500 ft
Day 2: ran straight up out of town to eat some of the best raspberry tarts we've ever had and ended the day at an amazing bakery where Ryan bought an entire loaf of bread. =)
Total miles: 9
Total gain: 3,700ft
Day 3: hiked up to the most amazing views before having lunch at refuge plan de l'aiguille, before spending the night at Refuge du Montenvers.
The next morning, Day 4: Ran back into town for our final day in Chamonix.
Total miles: 7+
Total gain: 4,000ft
Zermatt
Day 5: took a funicular up to immediate, amazing views of the Matterhorn. Couldn't stop photographing it all day! Got to see the infamous Zermatt black nose sheep, run on single track trails, and ended the day with a rainstorm. (After carrying waterproof layers all week, it was actually nice to use them!)
Total miles: 13.5
Total gain: 2,000ft
Day 6: Final day in the mountains with the group. Hiked 8 miles up to lunch at Berggasthaus Trift which looked like it was legit out of a Wes Anderson movie.
Total miles: 11
Total gain: 3,000 ft
Going to miss the Alps! Can't wait to be back - maybe the Italian Dolomites next year?
